A TOUCH OF NOSTALGIA

The Giants had some good moments this past week, but not enough to go back and rehash their series with the Atlanta Braves. They’re still called the “Braves” though their tomahawk chop may soon belong to the woke archives.

Instead, here’s a totally irrelevant Post from 2017 you might like:

You gotta hand it to those Canadians but, of course, we had a lot of patriotism back then too, back in the good old days:))

WHAT’S GOING ON WITH THOSE MARINERS?

Last night the Seattle Mariners beat the Chicago White Sox by a score of 14-2. Nice score, but that’s not the headline here. The Mariners to date have won 71% of their last 45 games, or specifically 32 of 13.

Here’s some pretty amazing statistics according to online sources; “During their last 7 games the Mariners have 93 hits, 39 extra base hits, 17 home runs and13 stolen bases. No other team in MLB history has this record over a 7 game period.

Tonight they’re playing the White Sox again, hoping for an 8th straight win. Tune in at 8:10 pm, that is if you’re lucky enough to get the game. Unfortunately, MLB has a lock on a lot of the out of area games as I found out scrambling to catch the Giants/Rangers game last week. Don’t get me started ~ we’ll save that for another day.

It’s okay to shine. The baseball world knows Seattle’s paid their dues. Stay tuned. We’ll keep an eye on them. They’ve already beaten the Giants 2 out of 3 this year!

WELCOME HOME BUSTER!

Madison Bumgarner & Buster Posey

Who’ll ever forget this magical moment in Giant’s history? Not me, that’s for sure. I have this one framed in glass in my office, never to be forgotten and for everyone to see!

Buster is bringing his family home to the Bay Area where he belongs. It’s hard to not get emotional about Buster Posey. We have a lot of wonderful memories; most good , some not so good, (remembering that goddawful injury at home plate). But he’s forever embedded in the psyche of faithful San Francisco Giants fans.

It was just announced today. Buster, Kristen, and family are packing up and heading West. Earlier this month, Buster was mentioned in our Squat blog as “the legend” because that’s who he is and that’s who he’ll always be.

Welcome Buster and Kristen, Lee, Addison, Livvi and Ada to your California Giants Kingdom:))

OH THOSE TEXANS!

Whatta great game tonight! To tell you the truth I was looking forward to seeing Bruce Bochy again and was hoping we wouldn’t beat his Rangers too bad. No worries. We lost the first 2 of the 3 game series.

Rather a ho-hum game until the 8th, when Luis Matos made an amazing catch in center field. Here’s how the Texans reported that catch:

“Even tho it was a great play he had to make up for the bad read, and then he had to reach up with some athleticism to make up for the bad footwork and the stumble, so even tho it was a really nice recovery, it was an ugly way to get there.”

Seriously??? Let’s consider that a “Texas type compliment” and leave it at that. No, to be honest, at this point I didn’t give a hoot how bad we beat those Texans. Sorry Boche, but those announcers don’t deserve a win. I mean where’s the respect for the game? So by this time, I’m praying for a real blow-out!!

The bottom of the 9th inning the game is tied 1-1 (kind of boring I know, but Baseball’s like that sometimes and I’m still ticked off at their announcers). The game goes to extra innings and in the 10th inning the Rangers crank out another run. So now it’s 2-1 with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, and one on base, when our rookie catcher Patrick Bailey whacks a doozer out of the park and ends the game with a Giants win 3-2!

I wonder how those illustrious broadcasters or whatever they’re called, announced that ending. Can you imagine our dear Krup & Kuip saying something like that about an opponent? I mean, “ugly way to get there”? Sweet revenge I say. Respectfully of course.

SF Giants 9th Inning & that Pitcher’s Mound!

The outlook wasn’t brilliant for the Giants yesterday: The score stood two to three, with but one inning left to play“.

You get where we’re going here ~ to the 9th Inning of last night’s blowout of the L.A. Angels. It didn’t start out that way but when the Giants decided to get in the game they did it in spectacular fashion, scoring 6 runs in the 9th inning to go out in style, beating LA 8-3. Whoa! After recovering from nearly scaring Max (the dog) to death with my hooting and hollering it’s reminded me of something totally unrelated.

Throughout the game my mind kept wondering what that message on the pitcher’s mound said. After the game was over I did a TV closeup and finally figured out “714 tickets.com”, advertising on the pitcher’s mound. Seriously? In the old days the pitcher’s mound had always been considered sort of “sacred” or something. It’s where every single pitch of the game begins, where every change in pitchers takes place and where all the really important in-game discussions are held.

Back in 2003, the pitcher’s mound was the scene of a Brian Wilson’s $1,000 fine for wearing shoes that were too flashy. I remember it well. The shoes were a really bright orange and the Miami Marlins coach filed a complaint that lead to the fine. Wilson quipped later he had too much awesome on his feet and maybe the shoes should be checked out for having performance enhancing cleats!

Brian had a dry sense of humor but you have to admit that’s pretty funny:))

To tell the truth, I’m not really sure why, but after that spectacular performance the Giants put on last night, this flashy orange shoe thing is what I’m remembering the most. Go figure huh?
